How searches in the collection

Introduction

Through the website, it is possible to openly search for any indexed words. This means that the system will retrieve the material regardless of the field (author, title, notes, publisher, subject). However, to be more precise and obtain more direct results, you can also choose to search by material title or by author names..

The system's search power is Boolean expressions. This indicates that a logical expression can be assembled with words to locate the desired materials.

How the system can search for words

The InfoISIS System uses information storage and management techniques from the ISIS System - Information System of Series Information, which allows for the flexibility of content and database practices guided by word dictionaries.

Thus, from the perspective of the Portuguese language, each word - and even its phonetics - are interpreted and organized in the environment, allowing for isolated or combined searches.

Query capabilities

To expand or reduce the query power, some terms can be used between the words

Restrictive*. The material must contain both words AND
Expansive. The material may contain any of the words OR
Exclusive. Material must contain the 1st but NOT the second word NOT
*Default value. When you enter more than one word it is as if there were an AND between them. In the search "Carlos Drummnd" for example it indicates that the material must contain BOTH words.
